YABIMO’s Extensive Contribution to the Johan Sverdrup Project

Norway

Country
Johan Sverdrup is the third largest oil field on the Norwegian continental shelf, and a major supplier of energy to Europe. The entire field is now on stream, and accounts for roughly a third of Norway’s oil production. It also has some of the lowest CO2 emissions of any oil field in the world.

Key Highlights of Johan Sverdrup
Third Largest Oil Field: Johan Sverdrup ranks as the third largest oil field on the Norwegian continental shelf, with an anticipated resource potential of 2.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Environmentally Efficient: The oil production at Sverdrup is notably low in carbon emissions, with only 0.67 kg of CO2 emitted per barrel of oil produced, compared to the global average of 15 kg per barrel. This efficiency is primarily attributed to the use of shore-based power.
Economic Production: In its inaugural year of operation, Johan Sverdrup yielded approximately NOK 50 billion from oil production, translating to around 130 million barrels, based on an average oil price of 40 USD per barrel of oil equivalent.
Ambitious Recovery Target: The field aims for an impressive recovery factor of over 70 percent, reflecting its commitment to maximizing resource extraction.

YABIMO has played a significant role in the development of the monumental Johan Sverdrup oil field, one of the largest projects on the Norwegian continental shelf. Our engagement extended across several key platforms and modules, showcasing our versatility and expertise in executing complex construction and engineering tasks.

Areas of Engagement
P2 Platform at Aibel Haugesund: We provided essential services that supported the comprehensive development of the P2 platform, ensuring that it met all the operational and safety standards required for efficient oil production.
P1 and Riser Platforms at Aker Stord: At the Aker Stord site, YABIMO’s skilled workforce was integral to the construction and outfitting of both the P1 and Riser platforms. Our teams specialized in scaffolding, insulation, and various construction activities necessary to bring these vital components to life.

Living Quarters at Aker Stord: Our involvement also included working on the living quarters, which required meticulous attention to detail and adherence to high safety standards, ensuring a comfortable and secure environment for the platform personnel.

Platform Processing Module and Converter Module Construction: YABIMO was tasked with the construction of critical modules necessary for platform operations, including the processing and converter modules. This work required precision and coordination, leveraging the expertise of our best fitters, painters, and general construction workers.

Workforce and Expertise
Throughout the project, YABIMO deployed a substantial workforce, scaling from 100 to up to 450 employees at peak times. Our team included:

  • Scaffolders: Essential for providing safe access to various parts of the platforms.
  • Thermal Insulation Experts: Ensured all installations were protected against harsh environmental conditions.
  • Fitters and Painters: Responsible for high-quality installations and finishes across all modules.
  • General Construction Workers: Provided vital support in all aspects of platform construction.
  • Fireproof Insulation Fitters: Enhanced the safety and durability of installations with specialized fireproofing solutions.

Through our substantial involvement in the Johan Sverdrup project, YABIMO has once again demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale, multifaceted projects effectively. Our contributions ensure that the platforms are not only operational and efficient but also safe and reliable, aligning with the project’s overall goals of innovation and sustainability.
