Visund – Integrated Semi‑Submersible Platform Operations

Visund is an oil and gas field located in the northern part of the North Sea, northeast of the Gullfaks field in the Tampen area. The field was discovered in 1986, and following approval of the development plan in 1996, production started on 20 April 1999 from the main installation, known as Visund A.

The field is developed with a semi‑submersible platform that combines drilling, processing, and accommodation facilities, supported by subsea installations. Additional subsea developments have been added over time to access satellites of the main reservoir. A development plan for gas export was approved in 2002, and gas exports began in 2005.

Visund produces hydrocarbons from several sandstone reservoirs of Late Triassic, Early Jurassic and Middle Jurassic age within formations such as the Lunde Formation, Statfjord Group and Brent Group. These reservoirs are structurally complex and lie at depths around 2 900–3 000 metres below the seabed.

The oil produced at Visund is transported by pipeline to the Gullfaks A facility for storage and tanker export, while gas is sent through the Kvitebjørn Gas Pipeline to the onshore Kollsnes terminal for processing and distribution.
