The DolWin 5 project is a major offshore grid connection development located in the German sector of the North Sea, designed to integrate large-scale offshore wind power into the onshore electricity network. The project forms part of Germany’s offshore transmission system and supports the expansion of renewable energy generation in the North Sea region.
At the heart of the project is the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform, which receives alternating current (AC) generated by offshore wind farms and converts it into high-voltage direct current (HVDC) for efficient long-distance transmission. The converted power is transported via subsea and onshore cables to the mainland, where it is fed into the German power grid.
DolWin 5 has a transmission capacity of approximately 900 MW, enabling the delivery of electricity generated by offshore wind farms to hundreds of thousands of households. The project is owned by TenneT, the German transmission system operator, and represents a key element of Europe’s offshore renewable energy infrastructure. The offshore platform and associated systems are engineered to operate reliably in challenging marine conditions while meeting strict safety and environmental standards.
By enabling efficient power transmission from offshore wind installations, DolWin 5 plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening energy security, and supporting the broader energy transition in Northern Europe.
Starting in July 2025 and continuing throughout 2026, YABIMO is supporting the DolWin 5 project by providing qualified offshore personnel to assist with construction, outfitting and maintenance activities on the offshore installation. These specialists contribute to high-quality execution, safety performance and efficient project delivery.
The workforce supplied by YABIMO includes:
