Kvitebjørn Field – Offshore gas and condensate project

Norway

Country

Kvitebjørn is a gas and condensate field located in the Tampen area of the northern North Sea, approximately 15 km southeast of the Gullfaks field. It lies in Block 34/11 at a water depth of around 190 metres. The discovery was made in 1994, and after approval of the development plan in 2000, the field was developed with a fixed offshore platform that integrates living quarters, drilling and processing facilities. Production began in September 2004.

The field produces rich natural gas and condensate from multiple geological rock formations, including the Middle Jurassic Brent Group and secondary reservoirs in the Lower Jurassic Cook Formation and Upper Triassic Statfjord Group. Reservoirs are located at depths of about 4 000 metres and were originally high‑pressure, high‑temperature (HPHT) environments.

To enhance recovery, production is primarily driven by pressure depletion, and gas pre‑compression has been implemented since 2014 to increase the efficiency of gas extraction. Rich gas is transported through the Kvitebjørn Gas Pipeline to the Kollsnes terminal, while condensate is shipped via a pipeline tied into Troll Oil Pipeline II to the Mongstad terminal for further processing and distribution.

The field has made a substantial contribution to Norwegian gas production, and although output has gradually declined as the reservoir matures, ongoing drilling programs are designed to sustain production levels and extend the field’s productive life.

In 2026, YABIMO is supporting operations at the Kvitebjørn Field by supplying experienced offshore personnel to assist with critical maintenance and operational tasks. These specialists help ensure the continued safe and efficient performance of the installation, contributing to ongoing field activity.

Specifically, YABIMO personnel provided in 2026 include:

  • Insulation fitters – expert installers and maintainers of thermal and acoustic insulation systems
  • Scaffolders – skilled in constructing and maintaining safe scaffolding for working at height
  • Surface fitters – performing mechanical assembly, installation, and maintenance of surface components

Project significance:

  • Kvitebjørn is an established gas and condensate producer contributing to Norway’s energy supply and export infrastructure.
  • The integrated fixed platform design and subsea transport infrastructure highlight advanced offshore engineering solutions.
  • Extended production strategies, including gas pre‑compression, demonstrate ongoing efforts to maximize resource recovery and field value.
