The Valhall PWP – Fenris project is one of the largest developments currently taking place on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Its purpose is to extend the lifetime of the Valhall field and to develop new resources at the Fenris field, formerly known as King Lear. The investment includes the construction of a new production and wellhead platform (PWP), which will be bridge-linked to the existing Valhall Central Complex, as well as an unmanned Fenris installation (UI) that will be connected to the PWP via a subsea pipeline approximately 50 kilometers long. The new infrastructure will enable a total of 19 wells – 15 from the PWP and 4 from Fenris – which together are expected to add around 230 million barrels of oil equivalent.
According to the project schedule, first oil from Valhall PWP is planned for the second quarter of 2027, while gas production from Fenris is expected to start in the third quarter of the same year.
The entire project is based on environmentally friendly solutions. By using the existing power-from-shore system, CO₂ emissions during operations will be among the lowest in the world, remaining below one kilogram per barrel of oil equivalent. The investment also brings major strategic benefits: it will not only extend the life of the Valhall field beyond 2028, but also double the gas processing capacity in the area and enable higher export volumes to Europe through the Norpipe infrastructure.
The project, with a total estimated value of USD 6.6 billion, is being developed by Aker BP as the operator, in partnership with Pandion Energy AS for Valhall and PGNiG Upstream Norway AS for Fenris.
