The Grane field is a major offshore oil development in the central North Sea, located about 185 km west of Haugesund, Norway. The field was discovered in 1991, and after approval of its development plan in 2000, production began on 23 September 2003.
Grane has been developed with a single platform that combines living quarters, processing facilities and drilling infrastructure on a robust steel jacket structure in approximately 127–130 m water depth. The field produces crude oil from sandstone reservoirs deposited in younger geological formations than typical for the Norwegian Continental Shelf, mainly in Paleocene sediments.
Over time, recoverable oil volumes have increased beyond the original estimates, supported by continued drilling and enhanced reservoir management, maintaining long‑term production potential.
Grane also serves as a processing hub for adjacent subsea developments. For example, the Svalin field is tied back to the Grane platform, and the nearby Breidablikk field has subsea wells connected to Grane’s infrastructure, extending the platform’s productive life.
Oil produced at Grane is transported by pipeline to the Sture terminal in Øygarden, where it is stored and then shipped to global markets.
In 2026, YABIMO is supporting ongoing operations at the Grane Field by supplying experienced offshore personnel to assist with essential maintenance and infrastructure support. These specialists are an integral part of sustaining high operational standards and ensuring the efficient functioning of platform systems.
The types of personnel provided by YABIMO in 2026 include:
Project significance:
Grane is one of Norway’s important oil fields, with a history of strong production and expanded recoverable reserves. Its integrated platform and subsea infrastructure illustrate mature offshore engineering, while tie‑backs from satellite fields like Svalin and Breidablikk demonstrate efficient use of existing facilities to maximize resource extraction.
