The Hugin field is part of the larger Yggdrasil area development in the central North Sea, located about 20 km east of the Frigg field. The field lies in waters around 120 metres deep and includes several discoveries such as Frigg Gamma Delta, Rind and Langfjellet. A development plan for the field was approved in 2023, and the concept centres on a new production and processing facility called Hugin A, which will serve as the hub for the Yggdrasil area.
Hugin A is being designed to integrate processing equipment, living quarters, and well operations, supported by nearby subsea templates and unmanned facilities tied back to the main platform. The field’s reservoirs contain both oil and gas in sandstone formations of Eocene and Middle Jurassic age, with geological complexity that requires careful reservoir management.
Planning for the Yggdrasil area includes coordinated development of neighbouring installations and tie-backs, and production is expected to begin around 2027, contributing to Norway’s continued offshore energy output.
From July 2026, YABIMO will support operations at the Hugin A project by providing skilled offshore personnel, contributing to maintenance and production activities on the facility.
The specialists provided by YABIMO include:
Project significance:
The Hugin A project is positioned to become a central hub within the Yggdrasil area, supporting oil and gas extraction and processing while linking to adjacent discoveries. Its development reflects modern offshore engineering practices and integrated field planning on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
