The Eldfisk field is a long-established oil producing asset situated in the southern part of the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, roughly 10 kilometres south of the Ekofisk field. Discovered in 1970, Eldfisk’s plan for development and operation was approved in 1975, and production commenced on 7 August 1979.
The field comprises multiple reservoir structures — commonly referred to as Alpha, Bravo and Eldfisk East — which have been developed with a series of interconnected platforms. The original installations included Eldfisk B (which combined drilling, wellhead and processing facilities) and additional wellhead and processing platforms. Over time, the development evolved with upgrades and new infrastructure to support sustained production.
A significant redevelopment phase, known as Eldfisk II, was approved in 2011, leading to the construction of the Eldfisk S platform — a modern integrated facility that replaced several legacy installations and expanded operational capabilities. Production from Eldfisk S began in 2015, and the Embla field, located to the south, was tied back to this facility. In 2024, production also started from the subsea Eldfisk North development, which further increases resource recovery using existing infrastructure.
The reservoir at Eldfisk consists of chalk formations from the Late Cretaceous and early Paleocene age, with natural fracturing that enhances fluid flow. To improve oil recovery, water injection has been applied since 1999 following initial production by pressure depletion — a method that also contributed to seabed compaction over many years.
Crude oil and gas produced at Eldfisk are exported via pipelines linked to the Ekofisk complex. From there, oil travels to terminals in the United Kingdom, and gas is transported to Germany through the Norpipe system.
In 2026, YABIMO is supporting operations at the Eldfisk Field by providing experienced offshore personnel who contribute to essential maintenance and operational tasks across the installation, helping to maintain high performance and safety standards.
The specialists provided by YABIMO in 2026 include:
