The Yme field is an offshore oil field located in the southern part of the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, approximately 130 km northeast of the Ula field. It lies in about 100 metres of water depth and comprises two main reservoir structures: Gamma and Beta, separated by roughly 12 km.
Yme was discovered in 1987 and initially developed with a jack‑up drilling and production platform on the Gamma structure and a subsea well template on the Beta structure. Early production began in 1996 but ceased in 2001 after the original facilities were no longer considered commercially viable. A new development strategy was later approved, and following redevelopment work including reuse of existing infrastructure and new drilling installation concepts, production was restarted in October 2021.
The Yme reservoirs contain oil within Middle Jurassic sandstone formations of the Sandnes Formation, with reservoir rocks located at depths of around 3 150 metres. These are heterogeneous reservoirs with varying properties across the field’s multiple deposits.
The development strategy for Yme involves pressure support from partial water injection and water‑alternating‑gas (WAG) injection, and some wells are equipped with gas lift systems to enhance production performance. Oil produced from the field is transported offshore by tankers, while associated gas is re‑injected into the reservoir to support pressure maintenance.
Since its restart in 2021, Yme has delivered stable production, and current field plans focus on managing natural decline through targeted well interventions and improved seismic evaluation to identify new infill drilling targets.
In 2026, YABIMO is supporting operations at the Yme Field by supplying highly skilled offshore personnel to assist with essential maintenance, installation and operational tasks, helping to ensure safe and efficient continuing production.

Project significance:
Yme represents a successful example of field redevelopment on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, having transitioned from initial early production to a long‑term phase of optimized recovery following restart. Its redevelopment demonstrates effective use of existing subsurface data, infrastructure reuse and sustained reservoir management, contributing to Norway’s offshore oil output well into the 2020s
