The Brage field is a longstanding oil producing asset located in the northern part of the North Sea, approximately 10 km east of the Oseberg field. The discovery was made in 1980, and after the development and operation plan was approved in 1990, the field commenced production on 22 September 1993. It has been developed with a single integrated offshore facility that combines drilling, production processing and accommodation on a steel jacket structure.
Brage predominantly produces crude oil from multiple sandstone reservoir rocks. These include reservoir units of Early Jurassic age in the Statfjord Group as well as Middle Jurassic sandstones in the Brent Group and the Fensfjord Formation. Oil and gas are also present in Upper Jurassic sands within the Sognefjord Formation, with smaller accumulations in the Cook Formation. Reservoir depths typically range around 2 000–2 300 metres below the seabed, with varying quality and productivity across zones.
To maintain pressure and enhance overall recovery, water injection is used in several reservoir units, while some formations are produced by natural depletion assisted by aquifer support.
Extracted oil from Brage is transported through a pipeline to the Oseberg field and then onward via the Oseberg Transport System (OTS) to the Sture terminal on the Norwegian west coast. A tied‑in gas export line connects to the Statpipe system for gas processing and further export.
The field has remained in production for decades, and operators continue to focus on enhancing oil recovery and extending its productive life. Recent drilling campaigns and appraisal wells are part of ongoing efforts to unlock additional reserves and optimise performance.
In 2026, YABIMO supports operations at the Brage Field by providing skilled offshore personnel who contribute to vital maintenance, installation and operational tasks on the platform. Their expertise helps uphold safety, efficiency, and the continuity of daily operations in a demanding offshore environment.
The specialists YABIMO supplies in 2026 include:
Project significance:
Brage stands as one of Norway’s mature offshore oil fields, with more than 30 years of continuous production since 1993. Its integrated platform and transport infrastructure exemplify sustained offshore engineering performance, while active exploration and well‑work programmes aim to extend field life and maximise hydrocarbon recovery.
